A hundred years old bamboo and rattan village in Hanoi

Phu Vinh Village in the outskirts of Hanoi is known as the most famous traditional bamboo and rattan village in Vietnam with hundreds of bamboo and rattan products, supplying both Thailand, Japan and Korea. Quartet and some European countries.

According to Mr. Tinh, to maintain and develop a variety of quality and design products, artisans here always have to focus on the choice from input materials to the product design.

Mr Tinh said that the village establishments had to import rattan, bamboo and guava from the mountainous areas in the north and northwest. The selected bamboo  is mostly young bamboo, which is cut down and soaked overnight to soften.

To make a rattan product takes 2-3 hours with a lot of work done, with more elaborate products it takes 6-7 hours. The price ranges from 50,000 VND to 70,000 VND. Products of large size or elaborately designed cost 150,000 or more. Wanting to make a complete rattan handicraft product requires the craftsman to be meticulous and skillful. Before starting to shape, all ingredients should be cut to size. Depending on the shape and use of the product that artisans will choose the material and the pattern to match

Ms. Nguyen Thi Han, 36 years old, who has been engaged in the trade for more than 20 years, said that bamboo and rattan workshops in Phu Vinh village are finding new markets and expanding the supply of rattan and bamboo products to Thailand and Japan. Korea, and some European countries such as England, France, Spain ... According to Ms. Han, the bamboo products we want to expand to the market must constantly improve the design, quality. .

Mr. Hoang Van Hanh (50 years old) said that because of his inheritance of knitting techniques from his father as well as his love for Vietnamese countryside and his passion for knitting, he always wanted to study many products. Meaningful, highly applicable. Mr. Hanh adds that there is a need to be attached to the profession, live the same profession and dedicate to the profession. So far most of the household items in the family are handmade from bamboo and rattan: tables, chairs, chopsticks, lamps, baskets, bags, trays, eel pipes, cages , sailboat and many decorative items ...

Not only that, Hanh also has the unique creativity when making the lamp with materials from the items left in his knitting workshop. There are hundreds of lights in Hanh's workshop that are always displayed and lit in his house.

It is said that in order to maintain and promote bamboo rattan production, every year, the Phu Hung commune authorities organize a contest on product exchange among artisans in the village. Many craftsmen in Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo village were awarded the title of national artist by the state. Among thousands of different types of handicrafts, rattan and bamboo  products still retain their distinctive and attractive characteristics.
